Reds Heritage Society Finalizes Reunion Roster of Hockey Stars

Providence, RI (7/4/2014): Thirty-two ex-Reds and other pro stars will make up the roster of hockey luminaries at the R. I. Reds Heritage Society’s 14th annual reunion at Goddard State Park in Warwick on Sunday, August 3, starting at noon.

Expected to attend are Ron Anderson, Stan Baliuk, Jim Bartlett, Bob Beckett, Serge Boudreault, Ross Brooks, Johnny Bower, Ray Clearwater, Bruce Cline, Gary Collins, Pete Demers, Buzzy Deschamps, Jack Ferreria, Marty Gateman, Jean-Guy Gendron, Bruce Hood, John Hutton, Doug Keeler, Bob Leduc, Dan Lewicki, Yves Locas, Ed MacQueen, Fleming Mackell, Don McKenney, Don Mellor, Tom Mellor, Howie Menard, Hartland Monahan, Wayne Muloin, Brian Perry, Ray Ross and Alton White.

The non-profit organization also announced that the deadline for reunion reservations has been extended to Tuesday, July 22. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for children (6-12) and free for kids under age 6.

Festivities will include “Tops Awards” to Jimmy Bartlett and the late Terry Reardon and Paul Larivee – three vital parts of the team’s last Calder Cup conquest in 1955-56. The award is presented annually in honor of the late Zellio Toppazzini, Reds all-time leading scorer voted the team’s “Player of the Century.”

The special R. I. Native-born Hockey Achievement Award will be made to Dick Ernst, legendary high school hockey coach. The Frank E. McCaffrey Memorial Fan of the Year plaque will be presented to Joe Gagliardi, a fan of local pro hockey dating back to the late 1940s.

In a special ceremony, the Reds will retire jersey #14 worn by the late Chuck Scherza, who played 10 seasons (1945-1955) for the Roosters. It will be the first uniform number ever to be retired in the team’s 51-year (1926-1977) history.
