R. I. Reds Announce Roster for 12th Annual Reunion, August 5

Providence, RI (7/17/2012): The Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society has announced its roster of 35 former pro hockey players and leading hockey executives expected to attend the organization’s12th annual reunion at Goddard State Park in Warwick on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, starting at 12 noon.

Leading the pack of former roosters will be the trio of Johnny Bower, and honored member of the prestigious Hockey Hall of Fame, Ray Ross and Ron Attwell. All three played key roles as teammates on the Reds last AHL Calder Cup championship back in 1955-56.

The roster of stars will include newcomer Hartland Monahan, who in 1974-75 as a 23-year-old rookie with the Reds, scored 28 goals and 42 assists for 70 points – one of the best offensive records for AHL freshmen that season.

Other new additions expected are Lou Lamoriello, president and general manager of the three-time Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils, ex-Bruins defenseman Gary Doak, Eastern League star Johnny Hutton and former NHL/AHL referee Bruce Hood.

Regular attendees scheduled to return from out of state are Ian Anderson, Bob Beckett, Ray Clearwater, Gary Collins, Danny Lewicki, Yves Locas, Eddie MacQueen, Don McKenney, Howie Menard, Jim Morrison, Wayne Muloin, George Ranieri and Ed Staniowski.

Former pro locals will include Stan Baluik, Serge Boudreault, Ross Brooks, Bob Leduc, Gil Mayer, the father-son duo of Don and Tom Mellor, Rich Pumple and Chuck Scherza, who has attended all 11 previous Reds’ reunions.

The society has also added special guests Lou Pieri, former Reds owner, Teddy Shore, son of the famed Eddie Shore, ex-women’s Olympic medalist goaltender Sara DeCosta Hayes, and Pete Demers, R. I. native-born trainer who is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Trainers Division, plus George Patrick Duffy, former “radio voice of the R. I. Reds.”

Bill O’Connor, chairman of the reunion, has reported that 250 of the 300 maximum tickets have been sold to date and that the society has extended its reservation deadline to July 27th. He emphasized that no tickets will be sold at the gate on August 5.
